Sunderland Empire Theatre Trust are the official lease holders of the beautiful Edwardian theatre Sunderland Empire, which is owned by Sunderland City Council and run by Ambassador Theatre Group (ATG). The Trust gives an independent overview, scrutiny, influence and challenge over the performance and outcomes at the theatre. It also makes recommendations about its operation and development.
A key focus is around fundraising and promoting creative learning in local communities, schools, and under-represented groups. We are dedicated to nurturing creativity, fostering inclusivity, and enriching the cultural fabric of Sunderland through the performing arts.
Sunderland Empire Theatre Trust, Sunderland City Council and ATG's mission is to provide accessible, high-quality performing arts experiences that inspire, educate, and empower individuals of all ages and backgrounds.
To produce and showcase outstanding experiences that captivate audiences, develop confidence, and encourage artistic expression.
By offering workshops, outreach programs, and interactive events, we aspire to make the performing arts an integral part of people's lives.
To break down barriers and create an environment where everyone feels valued, represented, and encouraged to share their stories.
Through training, mentorship, workshops, and educational partnerships, we aim to cultivate a new generation of performers, technicians, and arts enthusiasts.
We aim to create opportunities by building a network of support and expertise between local, local artists, performers, and industry professionals.
Through financial management, environmental awareness and adaptability we ensure that future generations can enjoy and benefit from the performing arts.
To actively seek out collaborations that celebrate the region's history, traditions and contemporary identity and aspire to leave a lasting legacy that transcends the stage.
